Order Caryophyllales, Family Amaranthaceae, Genus Chenopodium.
This ubiquitous plant prefers disturbed ground in western North America. It isn't fussy, and is the wild green we ate as chidren. Steamed, with butter and lemon, it is delicious, but don't eat it if it is growing in your manure pile. For additional inormation go to these links:
